The overview

Know what you’re filing.

An agent for service of process is designated to receive court papers on behalf of a business. California allows an eligible resident individual or a registered corporate agent. The business entity cannot designate itself as its own agent.

Entity Master Corporation offers California registered-agent service by inquiry. The agent designation, acceptance, document-handling arrangements and service terms are confirmed before engagement. Do not list an agent or address before receiving authorization.

A clear scope

What to expect.
What to confirm.

Your quote defines the included assistance. Legal advice, tax advice and unrelated filings are not included.

Filing assistance

  • Review of the requested California agent appointment.
  • Confirmation of the authorized agent designation and service terms.
  • Receipt and handling of service of process as specified in the engagement.

Matters to confirm

  • The entity’s eligibility and the proposed appointment date.
  • Document delivery contacts, handling arrangements and renewal terms.
  • Whether a separate state filing is needed to change the agent of record.

The process

A clear next step.

  1. Share the entity details

Provide the legal name, entity number and whether this is a new appointment or a change.

  2. Agree the appointment

Confirm acceptance, authorized designation and document-handling terms before using agent details.

  3. Update the state record

Complete any required designation filing and keep the contact responsible for documents current.

Good questions

A little clarity
before you file.

When a Statement of Information is due.
Does registered-agent service keep my business fully compliant?

No. Tax returns, Statements of Information, licenses and other obligations remain separate. Agent service is not a blanket compliance or deadline-monitoring guarantee.

May I use the agent address for everything?

Do not assume that the agent address can be used as a principal office, mailing address or public customer location. Permitted uses must be confirmed in the service terms.

How is an existing agent changed?

The required filing depends on the entity type. California corporations and LLCs generally update the agent through a Statement of Information. Confirm the new agent’s acceptance before submitting the change.
